Team Members
Joshua Craine
President/ Head of Conservation
Joshua has been working with Daedalus since 1995. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and studied at the Universitia Lorenzo Di Medici in Florence, Italy. Joshua earned an Arc Welding Certificate at the Wentworth Institute, and a Laser Cleaning of Art Works Certificate at the Conservation Centre of the National Museums in Liverpool, UK. Joshua is a Professional Associate of the American Institute of Conservation. Joshua has led the conservation efforts for the treatment of monuments, sculptures, and architectural elements for a multitude of institutions, municipalities and private collections. Joshua has lectured on the conservation of 17th and 18th century slate grave markers from King’s Chapel Burying Ground in Boston at the annual meetings of the Association for Gravestone Studies and the Association for Preservation Technologies. His writing on the conservation of historic bronze objects was published in the Boston Society of Landscape Architects Fieldbook.

Gompo Yarmolinsky
VP of Conservation/ Project Manager
Gompo began his career in conservation in his native Tibet. His earliest work was maintaining the one thousand year old buildings, sculptures, and architectural ornaments at the Deprung Gomang Monastic College. In 2011 Gompo began working at Daedalus and subsequently has led teams in a wide variety of conservation projects. These include: conservation of memorials and sculptures at Cambridge’s historic Mt. Auburn Cemetery, the United States Capitol building, the Massachusetts State House, the Boston Public Garden and Harvard University. Gompo specializes in the conservation of metals, wood, painted surfaces, and masonry. Gompo's skills go beyond conservation, he is also the staff barber, and makes sure everyone is looking before day of work or a night out.

Michael "Mars" Marston
Senior Conservation Technician
Michael began working for Daedalus in 2016. He has a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from Northeastern University. Michael’s experience working to restore classic cars, in farm maintenance and as a bicycle mechanic has brought important new skills to the Daedalus team. His background in Anthropology has been invaluable in helping us form culturally sensitive treatment plans. Michael has excelled in helping to mentor the newer members of Daedalus' growing team. Michael is the founder of and still races for for the Daedalus Cyclocross race team.

Susan Siefer
Specialty Finishes Manager
Susan is a working artist, her work has been featured in hundreds of shows and exhibitions. For Daedalus she works on decorative finishes (painting, gilt-surfaces) in our fine arts lab. Her keen eye and understanding of how art is made has made her invaluable member of our team as we craft treatment plans and take the final steps in the treatment process.

Rory "Rocky" Csaplar
Conservation Technician
Rory started working for Daedalus in 2020. He has a degree in Preservation Carpentry from the North Bennet Street School, one the countries premiere trades schools. Rory as helped Daedalus expand our capacity to work on wood objects. He is also our to-go team member for driving aerial lifts and tele-handling equipment. He quick with a joke and has an encyclopedic knowledge of 70's rock music, his cheerful deposition has been a value added to our staff.

Mahdi Mo Hager
Conservation Technician
Mahdi came to Daedalus as a jack of all trades, working on projects around the world in a variety of fields. He was referred to Daedalus to help us with a specific project, however, once we saw him use a spatula we knew he was going to be with Daedalus for the long run. Mahdi's dedication to learning our craft has been an inspiration to our team.

Clifford Craine
Founder, 1942-2016
Clifford began his conservation career in 1972 as an apprentice at the Conservation Services Laboratory of the Detroit Institute of Art. In 1976, he completed an internship at Harvard University’s Fogg Art Museum, in the Center for Conservation and Technical Studies. He remained at the Fogg for seven years as a conservator of objects and sculpture. In 1983 he founded Daedalus (formerly Dennis & Craine Associates.)
For 40 years Clifford pioneered techniques for conservation and became a nationally recognized leader in the field. He passed along his passion and skill set to the current staff at Daedalus, who use his knowledge and sage guidance daily as they practice their craft.
