The Challenge
The project area was comprised of over 20,000 square feet of cast stone pavers, stairs, balustrades and benches, 225 marble grave markers and bronze sculpture set upon a decorated lime stone and granite pedestal. Conditions included accretions and staining covering the majority of the surfaces. The cast stone elements suffered from dis-aggregation of the surface, displacement and numerous ares of heavily loss to architectural forms. Many of the marble markers had shifted askew. The bronze sculpture's coating had degraded leaving an uneven appearance and spots of active corrosion. The sculptures pedestal's steps were displaced and there several losses and cracks on the limestone.
The Solution
All the elements were cleaned of soiling and accretions. The cast stone elements were repaired by patching and re-casting new elements (15 balusters, balustrade railings, stair sections and pavers). Daedalus developed a custom mortar mix which matched the existing surfaces. Many of the marble headstones were lifted and re-set. The sculpture was spot re-patinated and coated. The sculpture pedestal was re-set, repaired and re-pointed. All of the work was performed by our staff.
